My Hero, My Dad, The Nurse is a colorful children’s book series about a little boy who ponders different career choices, but decides that he wants to follow his dad’s example, and become a nurse. In these books, adults as well as children are introduced to the idea that nursing is a rewarding career that is not gender specific. The My Hero, My Dad The Nurse series is based on the expertise and research of its author, Dr. Maggie Thurmond Dorsey, RN.

About the Author

Dr. Dorsey is Professor Emerita and former Interim Dean of the School of Nursing at University of South Carolina Aiken. She spent over 30yrs educating the future nurses of America. Her doctoral thesis studied the perceptions of the recruitment and retention of African American male nursing students. This research, coupled with her classroom experience served as a catalyst in spawning the idea for the My Hero, My Dad the Nurse children’s book series.

“Grammy Maggie” as she is affectionately known is the wife of over 40yrs to Keith, mother to Michael (Myisha), David (Sparkle) and Daniel (Victoria) and grandmother to Morgan, Maxwell, Hailey and Daniel, jr.
